Film Rights - The Online Trade
The
business of buying, selling and trading film rights has traditionally
been just a little convoluted, and inseparable from the handful
industry big-boys who control so much of the market. Though
technically different terms, film rights and exhibition rights
have become somewhat synonymous of late – while you
may encounter works-in-progress in the IPEX VIEW catalogue, the
majority of what you'll come across are fully completed
and produced films looking for an audience.
The IPEX VIEW spin on film rights and distribution is intuitive enough,
but is different enough from the traditional life-cycle
of a film that it's worth explaining. Normally the
producers and rights holders of a film will make a licencing
agreement with a traditional movie distribution company.
The distribution company will then exhibit the film as a
screener to prospective buyers representing theatres. Buyers
negotiate with the distribution company on the terms of
any potential lease agreements, and proceed from there in
getting the movie into theatres.
At IPEX VIEW we act as a transparent layer which represents
the distribution company in the above model. Instead of
gathering an audience of prospective buyers in a physical
location for a screening, we start the first leg of the
deal by allowing prospective buyers to screen trailers and
other information online. In fact, film producers don't
need to broker a deal with IPEX VIEW and create a licensing
agreement in any traditional form.
Film rights holders, whichever form they take be it the
film studio or and individual or company who has attained
those rights, can directly integrate their trailers and
sell sheets into the IPEX VIEW system, associate their work
with specific categories, audiences, and keywords, then
allow an unlimited number of potential distributors, content
buyers or rights buyers to view the material, and contact
them directly.
So if you're a film rights holder, the producer,
or even a content buyer looking for new targeted video content,
you have a home at IPEX VIEW. |
