Synopsis
Edge of Extinction follows an intrepid team of scientists to the coast of Trinidad’s rainforest, in their quest to save the Leatherback Sea Turtle from extinction. Every year, fishing nets accidentally entangle and kill thousands of Leatherbacks. The team’s mission is to bring this massive destruction to an end. They begin by conducting a unique set of experiments on the leatherback’s hearing. If the tests can prove that leatherback sea turtles have the ability to hear, the use of sonar devices could literally save one of the oldest creatures in the world. With underwater photography and super 16mm film, Edge of Extinction features exclusive footage of a dramatic rescue of a sea turtle from a fishing net. Produced in association with Discovery Channel Canada, Edge of Extinction is shot entirely on location in Trinidad and features beautiful underwater photography. Viewers are witness to the cutting-edge research of a team of marine biologists as they attempt to keep the Leatherback Sea Turtle – our last link to the age of the dinosaur – alive.
