Synopsis
Mothers and Daughters is a thirteen-part documentary series for the W (Women’s) Network, That explores the primal, loving, and emotionally charged relationship between mothers and daughters. Confessional, daring, and honest, the series follows mothers and daughters reuniting together to celebrate a bond too often taken for granted. The series features 12 - 13 different mothers and daughters as they take an important journey that has particular meaning to them and their relationship. From a mother and daughter returning to their homeland or “roots” to explore their history and deepen their relationship, to another mother and daughter living through the effects of their own stubborn resentments, Mothers and Daughters seeks to delve into the particular ties that bind. Set against rich and varied cultural backdrops in a cinema vérité style, Mothers and Daughters playfully documents the characters as they navigate around the ancient patterns and roles that emerge while on their journeys together. Candid in-situ comments and interviews, as well as home videos and movies, will help establish the deeper personal context to their relationship, shedding insight into the universal nature of the mother-daughter bond. Mothers and Daughters will strike a resounding cord with viewers who will see themselves in the tantrums and the kisses, in the rivalry and the role-reversals -- as the stories give privileged access to an intimate journey as much emotional and familial as literal.
