Synopsis
In THE SECRET LIBERATORS, historian and host Norm Christie follows the heroic – and often tragic – adventures of some of the bravest men and women of Britain’s Special Operations Executive – the SOE – as they are dropped into Nazi-occupied Europe to sabotage Adolf Hitler’s war machine from within. Amazing stories of SOE agents are revealed such as “Commandant Guy” Bieler, Frank Pickersgill, Yolande Beekman, Noor Inayat Khan, and Al Sirois, as they parachute at night into occupied France. We follow the agents as they sabotage railways and canals, evade German patrols, and gather in isolated fields for a night drop of weapons and supplies, and as they resist Gestapo interrogation and torture. We also follow German counter-intelligence and the Gestapo, as they cleverly and ruthlessly set out to destroy the Resistance and eliminate the SOE in France. The battle continued to D-Day – and beyond. Facing torture and death, few of these brave men and women survived to see the liberation of Europe. But, in the end, the victory was theirs.
