Synopsis
For Germaine Acogny, pioneer of the new African dance, the time has come to combine a return to the roots with a fresh step forward, whence this crystallization of all the paradoxes of the dark continent. Tchourai – the name of a kind of incense burned by Senegalese women to purify their houses – is a solo, an imaginary journey through Acogny's life, with all the nuances a body can feel and express: the dawn, zenith and twilight of every existence. "I dance: dances in prose on weekdays, dances in verse on Sundays…I dance, too, against wickedness, arrogance and stupidity, against toothache and the trials of love."
