Synopsis

It isn't easy to think of Vienne, that quiet little town on the banks of the Rhône just south of Lyon, as the scene for one of the West's great historical dramas. Yet it was here that the Council of Vienne officially abolished the Order of Knights Templar and, in rejecting proposals for reform of the Church, lit the fuse of the Protestant schism two centuries later.
Vienne, with its thousands of years of history and legends: from the Allobrogians to the humanist thinker Michel Servet, twice condemned to death, twice burnt at the stake (once in absentia), from the Romans to the Templars, from the Golden Calf to Pontius Pilate and the first Christians. This is a place where the political and religious issues of the West crystallised.
Historians, archaeologists, ancient ruins and reconstructions of the past: in this film the little-known saga of Vienne is brought to life again.
