Synopsis
A documentary about Dearborn, the largest Arab city in the Western world. 'Halal in the Prairie' sketches Dearborn’s history and analyses its current society. Schools are bi-lingual, with much emphasis on Islamic culture, religion and history. Despite the battle against terrorism and the animosity surrounding the Middle East conflicts - all of which affect the Arab community - Dearborn remains a success story. The community shows that desegregation in America works, and that limited knowledge of English or wearing headscarves have little to do with the potential achievement of minorities in a modern, multicultural society.
