Synopsis
The story of Eugene Downing, working class Dubliner and left wing radical who joined the International Brigade and fought against Fascism in the Spanish Civil War. The documentary features extracts from Downing’s memoirs including the incident when Downing was shot in the leg during the Battle of the Ebro. When it was amputated, Downing wrote that he had “one foot in the grave.”
