Synopsis
The world is devastated, the earth scorched and the sky blood red; yet against this apocalyptic background persists an ancient order. Blind to the annihilation of the civilized world, the ruling class continues to exercise an absurd power over its deferential underlings. As if to deny impotence in the face of planetary ruin, it demands obedience, and enacts an absurd ritual that's the last vestige of bygone grandeur. A film without words, both tragic and mocking, Subservience is another fine example of Patrick Bouchard's skill in using puppets to create a powerful visual universe.
