Synopsis

Two teenaged girls forge a secret relationship within the confines of an increasingly volatile small town gang

OF FIRE AND WATER BETWEEN US is a quiet coming of age story about one girls redemptive struggle to overcome fate.

Veronica Rush was happy once, with a best friend named Sara that she shared everything with. But once it's discovered that she and Sara might be more than just friends, life in quaint suburbia becomes a stifling, purposeless void.

Whether the rumors are true or not, Veronica's cold and overbearing mother Janice sends her off to live with her ailing Grandfather, John in order to keep the prying eyes of the community off her back and to shock some reality into her wayward daughter. Veronica is to stay there until she turns eighteen at the end of the summer, when what she does with her life will be of no more consequence to Janice if she continues down her current path.

Life in the sleepy town seems easy enough at first, as she's put to work at the coffee shop with Gillian, a caring mother-figure, for the duration of her stay. Gillian hopes to gain Veronicas trust, but once Veronica catches a glimpse of the towns mischief makers,
The Saints, easy no longer comes, and trust flies out the window. John, getting sicker and sicker as the days go on, tries warning Veronica of the dangers of getting involved with the gang of thugs. But Veronica sees him as a reminder of her recent past where things always go wrong and somehow cant muster up enough to care about what happens to herself or anybody else - until she meets CG.

CG is the impossibly strong-willed, rough and tumble girlfriend of the gang's leader, Grant. He's got a short fuse, and he always makes sure to let you know it. CG and Veronica start forming a bond, being the only girls within the group, but Veronica tries to fight the relationship, struggling alone with the reason she is there. Does she distance herself from the recent tumultuous months and form a new beginning, or continue hating herself for giving in to the wishes of the mother that put her here?

Veronica slowly begins to open up to CG, but is fearful that this new relationship will cause as many problems as the first one did. To make matters worse, a jealous Grant soon becomes suspicious of the two girls, making Veronica and CG do outrageous things to make them pay for their suspected trysts. Veronica now struggles to find a balance between being with CG, figuring out just who she wants to be, and keeping Grant happy as he gets harder and harder to please.
