13 rookies handpicked from around the world are brought to a remote place of a country responsible of creating the biggest mlb stars of the world, they discover the game it’s not only about being able to hit or throw, the game is about conquering the curveballs that are thrown at them off the field…in life, at a country that isn’t theirs, far away of there love ones.
Additional Information
BASEBALL REPUBLIC: REALITY SHOW, a true-to-life weekly reality series where viewers will see the obstacles and challenges that mlb stars face to come to the big leagues. —A journey jam-packed with trial and tribulation, rollercoaster highs and lows, drama and pressure.
SHOW FORMAT: Part Real World, part Docu-Drama, Baseball Republic capitalizes on the You Tube/Facebook generation’s fascination with sports and public privacy by following the lives of 13 rookies from worlds apart, as they risk everything to make it all the way to the Major Leagues.
Cameras will roll on and off the field to candidly capture those moments in a player’s life that, hopefully, will add up to fulfilling his life-long dream of becoming a pro ball player, with all the fame, fortune and responsibility that goes along with it. Baseball Republic will intersperse:
· Game footage
· Dug-Out footage
· Locker room footage
· House, apartment, or dorm footage
· Local fan footage — at their dinner tables, bars, diners, on Main
Street, at work and at the ballpark.
· Face-on interviews with mlb starts that host the show those who’ve helped shape the player’s life: mothers, fathers, siblings, teachers, coaches, H.S.
buddies, girlfriends, wives, children and, yes, rivals, also real people living with player in the baseball republic.
Because there is competition — it’s built in and it’s fierce.
GENERAL SET UP: Baseball Republic, candidates will be chosen by casting in their country of origin, by managers and owners for the following criteria:
● Who on your team has a realistic, legitimate chance to be a Major
Leaguer?
● Who on your team has not only the baseball gifts to excite viewers, but a winning personality to captivate them over a full season?
● who on your team has a compelling personal life or story to tell that
Would pose major obstacles to overcome, both on and off the field?
Ideally, we will follow 13 players from 13 countries and they may come from any of the four levels of Minor League Baseball: Rookie, A, AA, AAA.
By screening, auditioning if you will, Baseball Republic in conjunction with its organizations, will be able to weed out those players who don’t meet the criteria. Optimally, screening will also be able to identify rookie “types” that can only enhance the personal dramas we expect to find in every dugout of every backwater rookie of the world they include:
● The “Firmao” with all the perks.
● The “Veterano” type—the career AAA player on his last legs, with no real interest from any affiliate anymore; the guy who’s “chasing the Ghost.”
● The “Prospecto,” recognized as an impact/can’t miss player.
● The “Escobita Nueva,” the low draft pick who far exceeds expectations.
Once chosen, the thirteen players will be filmed — with as little imposition as possible — for two months.
Unlike American Idol or Amazing Race, Baseball Republic will not provide a million dollar payoff to the winner. Instead the parent team will provide that, by one day issuing a plane ticket to its hot rookie, with marching orders for him to be in XXX that night to start against the XXX. Baseball Republic cameras will follow that goose bump moment, as the climax to the first season, when that lucky minor leaguer steps on the mound, or up to the plate, for his first Major League appearance.
OVERVIEW: A special aspect to Baseball Republic will be speaking to those local fans whose lives flow with every win or loss they produce. For them their players are everything, as low on the totem pole as they may be, are stars, idols, even heroes to the locals — who’ve adopted these guys as one of their own — Surrogate families there to help homesick young men realize a mostly Impossible dream. And it’s not just cheering for them — it’s a hot local meal after a game, or helping them engage in a new culture they adopted, sometimes even dating them — in general nurturing the hopes of a safe, successful journey on the way to baseball’s Promised Land.
But sometimes that can be bittersweet because, as the locals root for their favorite players to grow, and improve, in there game, they know full well that this is a country with baseball in there genes that if any mistake is done they’re gone — snatched away, and lost the opportunity of being in the Major Leagues.
Conversely, that’s why a broader, national audience — the fans in major league cities hungry for a baseball challenge — will find Baseball Republic a program not to be missed — a destination where, from any cell phone, PC, laptop, TV or scoreboard, they can monitor the progress of the best players, keeping an eye out for the next big thing who will one day be called up to be, perhaps, the answer to their prayers, trained in the land of champions to conquer the limitations and challenges these mlb stars.
Whether from the POV of the players or the fans, Baseball Republic will capture that love along with the enduring loyalty and passion we have for our National Pastime from the guys who are living the dream.
And the timing could not be more perfect, as we leave the steroid era and enter a new age where young, gifted players are learning that it’s hard work, determination and hustle that will win the games…and the day.
Most of these home grown players will never make it past their last over-the-shoulder catch in deep center field. Because, out of 3500 Rookies, only 10 percent of them will ever wear a major league uniform. And of that number, an even smaller percentage will make a career of playing baseball. Which begs the question:
Why do it?
Some might say it takes a special person — one with grit, perseverance and a healthy fearlessness — to chase something you most likely can’t catch.
It is always said that all good TV or film stories are never about the “arena,” but rather about the characters. The reason for that is that we viewers are human, too, and we identify with what other humans — like rookies — are going through.
Baseball Republic will open a window that allows viewers to see what it takes for these rookies to sacrifice, to overcome adversity and, in the process; viewers will invest emotionally in their lives. For some, that will be the “hook” at the end of every episode — will Bobby overcome the batting cage? For others, it will be Pedro,” but rather about the characters.
In any case, whether you’re a baseball fan or not, you’ll soon find yourself rooting for one or all of these aspiring major leaguers — foot soldiers on
Baseball Republic.....
